I loved this band when they went by the longer moniker of The Chiodos Bros. and I still love them. After a serious bout with pneumonia, vocalist Craig Owens joined his fellow crew with a new shortened name and a new label in Equal Vision Records to produce one of the finest specimens in recent memory of post-hardcore punk rock. It’s not often that you hear ridiculous complicated metal riffs juxtaposed over symphonic keyboards amid a flurry of screams and melodic vocals. Their song arrangements are fantastic and complicate what you might expect from a talented “metalcore” group—a genre term that doesn’t come close to sticking with this enigmatic band that continues to prove that their talents keep being refined with each release. As a six-piece you’d expect a somewhat disjointed presence but instead Chiodos efficiently and effortlessly composes intricate tunes with ubiquitous melodies and sharply textured heaviness.
