Perhaps no one can explain the sheer ferocity and timid quietness it is better than when vocalist Craig Owens says “we don’t want to let the kids down” when discussing the group’s intense vocals live at shows. Dimebag Darrell Tribute

Years ago I heard one of the best guitar solos ever on "New Level" on Pantera's "Vulgar Display of Power". Between the wild rhythm and lead guitarwork, destructive whirlwind of drums, screeches and screams, and grooving low-end, Pantera was one of the most influential metal bands in history. Tragically on December 8th, during a Damageplan show in a Columbus Ohio nightclub, the man known as Dimebag was shot and killed. The killer was shot dead by police and was described by friends as mentally deranged who was obsessed with Pantera and even accussed them of stealing his lyrics. Dimebag's brother was also at the show and watched this terrible event unfold from behind the drum set. Dimebag was 38. The metal world will never be the same after this tragic loss.
Damageplan was formed by Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul after the demise of Pantera. Unfortunately the Pantera break-up was not an amicable one. While Dimebag and Vinnie Paul went off to work on their Damageplan project, Pantera's former singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex continued to work on their project Down. Phil's drug problem contributed to the demise of Pantera and tempers flared as both members shot back at each other through the press and the Internet. But when it all comes to it, Dimebag will be sorely missed by all.
